Below is a list of frequently asked questions asked by past clients. This will hopefully answer any questions you may have regarding asphalt paving and our construction services and policies.

What is Asphalt?

Most asphalt mixes contain 5% asphalt/bitumen cement and 95% aggregates. These aggregates are stone, sand, and gravel. Due to its viscous nature, asphalt/bitumen cement must be heated. That way, the asphalt mixing facility can mix it with the aggregates.

What are the Main Benefits of Asphalt?

Asphalt is cost-efficient, durable, easy to maintain, and even facilitates noise reduction. Asphalt is very beneficial and will leave a lasting impression for years to come.

How Can I Protect My Asphalt?

An asphalt paved surface is an investment that’s well worth protecting. To protect your asphalt pavement, you will have to seal the driveway with a topcoat sealer. Before you seal the asphalt pavement, you will have to take the following steps.

  1. Look for Trouble Spots: Make note of any cracks, oily stains, potholes, or areas that are crumbling.
  2. Scrub Away Stains: If you find oil or grease stains, try to remove them with hot water and brush them out. Other alternatives include using an oil eater.
  3. Fill in Cracks: If you don’t fill cracks right away, they can expand and become more difficult and expensive to fix.
  4. Patch Potholes: If you don’t fix the cracks in your asphalt surface, they may form potholes. Potholes cause several problems and can destroy your paved surface. They can also damage vehicles and create hazardous conditions for pedestrians.
  5. Prep Driveway: Make sure all debris is gone before applying the seal coat. That way, the surface will be nice and smooth.

By following this list, your driveway will be ready for sealcoating.

What Time of Year is Best for Sealcoating?

In general, the best weather for sealcoating is when the temperature is above 50 degrees. In Michigan, the sealcoating season may run between April and October. But it depends on the weather conditions.

Also, keep in mind that we won’t be able to continue sealcoating in the autumn once the leaves start to fall. Falling leaves will damage the sealant before it has a chance to set and cure.

Is the Lowest Price Always the Best Option?

It all depends on the severity of your asphalt paved area. If your driveway is damaged, then you might have to pay a lot of money to resurface it. But minor damages can be easily fixed and usually don't cost as much.
